About the final project for: Needle Felting: Paint Portraits with Wool

Needle felting portraits

“You've reached the end of the course! Congrats! Now you are ready to create beautiful images with FIBER. How cool is that? Thank you so much for joining this course. I absolutely loved sharing the magic of fiber arts and needle felting, and now I feel like we are best felting friends. Before saying our goodbyes I'd like to make a quick recap of the steps you need to take on your Final Project, this time on your own (although I'll be at the reach of a click since you can re-watch the lessons as much as you need!). Remember it is all about practice and patience, so let's review what you are up to next: Gather inspiration photos and/or draw the animal face that you’d like to needle felt.

Transfer the lines of the sketch or photo onto the background fabric. make sure to mark out any significant color or texture changes, or any parts of the sketch or photo that will help you keep track of the different areas as you begin felting.
Begin needle felting important features like the eyes, nose, and mouth first. Then work top to bottom to fill in the remaining areas of the portrait. Work on blending colors and creating textures as you go, and consider completing each area before moving on to the next.
After any final touches, carefully lift the portrait from the work surface. Frame the portrait with an embroidery hoop, and glue the fabric to the edges. Hang and admire your new artwork!
And that's a wrap! I’d love to see you put your own artistic twist on your portrait. You can add a background or other environmental elements to make the portrait your own. I hope you’ll join me and other students in the forum and share your work. I cannot wait to see what you create! Happy Felting! ”

“Final Project Congrats on finishing the course. Thanks for letting me guide you on your felting journey. Before I say goodbye, I'll offer you a few tips to help you finish your final project. First, be mindful of the amount of wool that you use. It's easier to start with less and then add more as you go along. Also, you can make your final project as flat as you like or you can give it some relief. You can add more wool to make the nose and the ears stand out against the background if you like that look. Use a range of colors to create shadows and highlights. Also, you can blend your colors...”
