Begin needle felting important features like the eyes, nose, and mouth first. Then work top to bottom to fill in the remaining areas of the portrait. Work on blending colors and creating textures as you go, and consider completing each area before moving on to the next. After any final touches, carefully lift the portrait from the work surface.
