About the final project for: Artistic Tattoos in Full Color

Full color artistic tattoo

“You have reached the end, and I thank you for being part of this course. As a teacher and tattoo artist, I hope to be a contribution to your development as a tattoo artist. I invite you to carry out your own final project, keep in mind that a tattoo is not just tattooing. Take the time to create a unique piece full of color and life. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your final project: The first steps: Get a tattoo order, and collect the information from the client, such as the theme, reference images, size of the tattoo, area to be tattooed, among others. Then make a mood board about the selected ideas. Remember to use images that serve you for different things, from shapes, colors and ways of addressing a certain topic.

The design: Illustrate your design considering achieving a visual tour according to the body lines for that you need a photograph of the area of the body that you are going to tattoo. For this step, I suggest you recognize the direction of the body line of the area to be tattooed, in addition, order the elements of the chosen theme trying to generate a tension in the same direction of the body lines.
The colors: If you haven't already done it at this point, define the color palette you'll be working with. Remember to keep in mind the inks that you have at your disposal. Then apply the color to your design and present your project to your client to make the last modifications.
The stencil: Prepare the stencil digitally or analogously, considering black blocks, lines, and bleedings.
The tattoo: Make your tattoo in full color! And always consider the linear value, and shading and applying the color correctly, so that the tattoo lasts for a lifetime.
Every tattoo project is different; different clients, different orders, different areas of the body. Find out how you can compose in a creative and viable way to tattoo in full color. For me, the tattoo is a sum of mistakes. It is very easy to misapply a color, or for a line to expand, or for the stencil to stick badly. I believe that all tattoos have errors to some degree. This is not bad, on the contrary, these errors are what give value to the tattoo as something handmade, not mechanized. Don't get frustrated if something doesn't go right, take a breath and move on! Please don't forget to share your process and your final project, this way I can give you feedback! Remember that Domestika is an international platform, let's take advantage of the forum to exchange ideas, advice and constructive criticism among ourselves. Also, if you have any questions during your process, you can use the forum to ask me what you need. I ask you to be patient, as it may take a while to answer. I can't wait to see the tattoo you've created. See you soon on the forum!”

Since 2015 however, he has been dedicated solely to the art of tattooing and these days is known as Molina Tattoo. He is the founder and owner of Nomade Tattoo Studio, a renowned tattoo studio in the coastal town of Viña del Mar in Chile where he receives international guests and tattoo artists. His work is distinguished for combining illustration, realism, and watercolor-style techniques, where the use of color is the star in each and every one of his tattoos.

In each of his tattoos, Juan Pablo applies the knowledge of aesthetic, color, and composition that he learned from his studies in visual arts.
