Learn professional techniques to create and edit your own ABC books
The works of Carlos Higuera -silustrator and designer specialized in children's illustration- distill tenderness in spurts. In the course Character design kawaii style , which teaches in Domestika with Piñeiro Blue - illustrator and designer with whom Kudasai Studio has founded, gave you the guidelines to create adorable characters inspired by Japanese culture; In this, Carlos will teach you the whole process to create an ABC book.
These books are aimed at children up to 3 years old and generally, they are printed on cardboard and Carlos will show you the process to make them from the sketch and the storyboard, to the final design, passing, of course, by illustration.
About this course
You will begin knowing the work of Carlos, who will also tell you about his passion for drawing and how he became what he is today. He will also tell you about his influences and what inspires him most.
It will show you some of your sketchbooks and help you with exercises so that you lose the fear of drawing and you can embrace your own style.
Then, he will explain how to make an ABC book and you will see how to carry out an editorial project of these characteristics.
You will start by writing a simple story, which will serve to articulate the plot thread of your book; you will create the main characters; you will choose your color palette and select the type that best suits the style of your project.
Once you have clear all the elements of your book, you will make a storyboard and a work calendar.
Afterwards, you will make the illustrations and make the final editing of your book.
Finally, Carlos will talk about some legal issues that should be taken into account when addressing this type of editorial projects.

Carlos Higuera is a graphic designer and illustrator. He studied children's illustration and creative processes at the Sótano Blanco art school in Buenos Aires, Argentina and worked as art director for Leo Burnett and Sancho BBDO. Currently he directs, together with Azul Piñeiro, the Kudasai Design Studio. In addition, she coordinates lectures and online illustration workshops and is dedicated to the creation of illustrated books and mobile applications for children. His work has been published and exhibited in countries such as Japan, Germany, Spain, France, the United States, Argentina and Colombia.
