About the video: Inspirations

Overview

“In this lesson, I want to share with you which disciplines and artists have influenced my artistic path and have in some way changed or enriched my style. The person who had the greatest impact on me was certainly a left-handed calligrapher, from whom I learned that, despite the difficulties, I too could have taken this path. Music has also always been one of the things that has accompanied me throughout my journey. I speak in particular of classical music, which has a relaxing rhythm and melodies and some relationship to calligraphy in terms of movement and rhythm. I'll also tell you how mathematics and geometry were fundamental to my training as a calligrapher, and I'll also introduce you to another master calligrapher: Jake Weidmann.”

In this video lesson Giorgio Gaetani addresses the topic: Inspirations, which is part of the Domestika online course: Introduction to Calligraphy. Explore the rules of calligraphy writing by learning to compose words and phrases in an elegant and timeless style.

Calligraphy Artist

Giorgio Gaetani is an Italian calligrapher who grew up with a passion for letters and writing. As a trained engineer and classical musician, he finds the pilars for his study of the basic lines and shapes of copperplate in mathematics and geometry. While he was still a student, he made his Instagram account @bad_calligraphy where he began to share his creations with his followers.

In time, he started collaborative projects that led him to work with names like Max Mara and Tiffany&Co, as well as exhibit one of his pieces at Expo Calligrafia at the Grigore Antip museum in Bucharest. Giorgio is a left-handed calligrapher, a characteristic that has pushed him to find a signature style that makes his creations even more distinctive.
