About the final project for: Weaving, Embroidery & Punch Needle: Create a Textile Painting

Weaving, Embroidery & Punch Needle: Create a Textile Painting

“You have arrived at the end of the course, thank you for accompanying me on this adventure. I hope this class has made you fall in love with the wonders of weaving! Now is the time for you to play with the materials and techniques I have taught you to create your own project. Before leaving, I will explain to you what I want to see in your final project. I would like you to create a 30x40 cm multi-technique frame using all the techniques we have seen: punch needle, weaving, embroidery, pearl inlay, etc. You will have to seek inspiration to create your project. To do this, choose your materials taking inspiration from a drawing, the material itself or the colors that motivate you to create.

To strengthen your presentation, show yourself in action! I want to be able to see how you weave, puncher and embroider on the canvas or fabric of your multi-technique frame. Likewise, it would be great to see how you embroider wool, wooden beads, clay medallions, and how you add different textures to your frame. Enhance it with beautiful finishes to make it unique!
Finally, in addition to your final photos, it would be great if you add supporting text indicating why you selected such color palette, drawing, techniques and materials. Tell me what was your experience of this course!
Trust yourself! Let your instinct speak, listen to it, and follow the movements that your body and your heart will inspire in you. If you do, you will see that the results will be amazing. Remember to share your whole process so that I can give you more appropriate feedback for your work. If you have any questions during the course and the development of your project, remember that you can ask me anything in the forum. I will get back to you as soon as possible. I can't wait to discover your multi-technical frameworks! See you soon on the forum !”

“Final project I hope you have learned lots of things and that you have fallen under the charm of these marvelous techniques, as I did before you. Now it’s your turn to dive in and create your own multi-technique picture. The best advice I can give you to do this project, is to trust yourself, so dive in and trust yourself. Let your instinct speak, listen to it, and follow the movements that your body and heart inspire in you. Creating is about feeling. So let yourself get carried away. Above all, don’t be afraid to step outside the lines we saw together. Invent your own types and your own c...”

Julie Robert discovered embroidery thanks to her grandmother who taught her some invaluable sewing secrets. After a trip to Iceland that really left its mark, she created a collection of textile wall pieces that she sold to a store in Seattle leading to her work gradually becoming recognized.

Julie has an impressive background in the creation of textile art and is currently an ambassador for punch needling in France, and one of her books about this technique titled Punch Needle has been translated into various languages. For her, knitting is a form of relaxation. Her goal is to make textile art accessible for everyone and she does this by sharing her knowledge with the same sweetness that characterizes her work.
