About the final project for: Watercolor Painting for Illustrated Products

Watercolor Painting for Illustrated Products

“You have reached the end of the course, thank you very much for choosing this course. It has been a great experience sharing this adventure with you. To finish and say goodbye, I share with you an example of the process that I would like to see in your final project. This way you will have a clear idea of the steps to follow when designing the illustrations for your products. The beginning Start by planning and deciding the products you will make, and then come up with the illustrations, always thinking about the supports you will work on. Do a search for references that will help you get inspired and decide the best way to make your illustrations. I suggest that your mood board is varied and that you do not select the same type of image. Fill it with styles and colors!

The color palette To decide the color palette, try different colors, and keep in mind that in addition to using those that combine, you can try those that do not. This could give your work originality!
The sketch and tracing In the sketching process, he defines the composition of the main illustration: the character. Then you can focus on the complementary elements. Always remember to think before you draw, as your illustrations will need to fit the products in your line. Transfer the sketch to paper with the tracing process, which can be with a light table or with the help of a backlit window. I recommend using a hard pencil (HB, 2H, 3H), and make sure you draw lightly on the paper.
Paint your illustration Start painting the character, and then work on the details, like shading and outlining. The same with the complementary elements.
The latest details To begin the digital work, incorporate a scanned image of the artwork. To do this process, I recommend using a scanner or getting a high-resolution photo. The important thing is that the image is as clean as possible, without external elements. Also, do the digital retouching, start by cutting out the background of the scan itself. I did this process in Procreate, but you can also do it with Photoshop, which was the program I used later. Adjust the color parameters and arrange your project in different layers. Continue with the digital process, make new compositions from the illustrations and adapt them to the different products in your line.
Now you have your final project ready! I recommend saving all files in high quality, 300 DPI, and CYMK, JPG, PNG, or Tiff format, depending on your print provider. If you dare send to print and see your finished work! If you did, also share photos of your products in your final project. If you have any questions, remember that you can contact me through the forum, I just ask you to be patient, as it may take a while to answer you. I invite you to see the final project of the rest of your classmates and exchange opinions and tricks with them. I wish you the best of luck and success with your product line. See you on the forum!”
