In 2014, he was featured on the México 20 list, which compiles the country's 20 most prominent writers under the age of 40.
Throughout his career, he's received numerous awards for his work; 2014 was an outstanding year which earned him a Venezuela Banco del Libro Award for Mi abuelo el luchador (El Naranjo) as well as a Fundación Cuatrogatos Award, International Latino Book Award, The White Ravens for La guarida de las lechuzas (El Naranjo). He went on to win The White Ravens again in 2017 with the picturebook Yo te pego, tú me pegas (3 Abejas) and once more in 2021 with Salvajes (FCE).
