A course by Emily Katz
Emily Katz is an American fiber artist and small business owner based in Portland, Oregon. Artistic since childhood, she experimented with various mediums and went on to study painting and printmaking at Maryland College Institute of Art. After deciding college wasn’t for her, Emily began thrifting and personalizing vintage clothing with her own embroideries. This kickstarted her sustainable womenswear business, with items selling in 50 boutiques around the world. After the economic crash of 2008, she closed her brand and returned to embroidery with a fine art focus. Emily then spent time learning macramé from her mother and her love for the craft was born.
Since then, she has taught macramé workshops to 1000s of people across the UK, Japan, Portugal, Denmark, and more. Emily also runs her second business, Modern Macramé where she sells macramé materials and makes custom pieces for interior clients including Ralph Lauren and Nordstrom. Emily has been featured in various magazines and even published her own book on the macramé craft in 2018.
