About the final project for: Customizing Sneakers with Paint and Other Materials

Customizing Sneakers with Paint and Other Materials

“You have reached the end of the course, which begins your next steps in the world of Custom. Now is when you start trying new things, do not stay with the "is enough", you can always go further. It is always important to innovate, to differentiate yourself from the rest and stand out. I invite you to create your own final project, let me show you an example of how I would like to see your process: The sketch: Draft your project sketch, work on it, and add all the necessary details until you get your final sketch. Keep in mind that your sketch is the guide that will lead you to achieve your goal. You must select colors, possible images, drawings and interventions that you want in your shoes. I ask that during this step you keep in mind the materials with which you will work.

Prepare the shoe: Before you begin, prepare the shoe you will be working with. Clean the leather with acetone to remove impurities and ensure optimal paint adhesion. Also, check those areas that you want to protect with paper tape.
The painting: Apply the necessary coats of paint to achieve the effect you are looking for. Do not be afraid of being wrong, remember that unexpected situations may arise along the way, take them as an opportunity to give flight to your imagination.
The overlapping pieces: Create the molds for your sneakers. You can make some of your molds digitally and others on your shoes by marking with paper tape. Keep in mind that in order to glue your overlapping pieces you must place the glue at least thirty minutes before activating it with the help of a heat gun or dryer.
The packaging: This is a new opportunity to give strength to your concept. Design the packaging of the shoes you can do it by hand or in Photoshop.
I would like to share with you some last tips before I say goodbye, practice with many different materials, do not be afraid and put your shoes on the table, open your mind and start creating. Test your materials and tools before starting work. This job is for professionals, and a professional is not necessarily one because of their experience, but because of the way in which they apply knowledge and improve step by step. If you like this job, become that detailed and observant person who wants to give the best of himself in a job done. Always think about the end goal, about people's criticism of your work, how you want to impress the public, but also think about how you want to feel yourself when making this type of footwear, this type of art. Always remember to start with an idea and take it to a concept, although it is not always 100% necessary, having a purpose is always more valued and you will always feel comfortable with what you have just done. Please don't forget to share your final project and your entire process. I will be giving you feedback as soon as possible, but while I do, I ask you to see the projects of the rest of your colleagues. I also encourage you to comment and support your colleagues. I send you a hug and I'll wait for you soon in the forum!”
