Pedro Ivan Gonzalez Yescas, better known as Peter Wasp, is a Mexican fashion designer whose work focuses on slow fashion and sustainability. Under his namesake brand, he combines fashion and art with upcycling and natural dying.

His style is a personal reinterpretation of his Mexican heritage which he also expresses through embroidery and screen printing. Peter mixes manual techniques such as shibori, cyanotype, and fabric marbling to create original designs and transform clothing using color and textures.

    FAQs

Tie-dye involves tying or folding fabric before dyeing it to create unique, colorful patterns. You can achieve spirals, stripes, gradients, circles, and geometric shapes on garments and textile accessories.

This course is aimed at people with intermediate textile skills but is also accessible to those with basic experience who want to deepen their knowledge of new dyeing and textile design methods.

You’ll need cotton garments, textile dyes, fixatives, rubber bands or strings, containers, gloves, squeeze bottles, and a well-ventilated space. The course provides a detailed materials list and suggests alternatives.

You’ll learn tie-dye techniques like spirals, stripes, gradients, crumple, bullseye, and geometric shapes. The course also covers fabric preparation, mordant use, overprinting, upcycling, and slow fashion basics.

The course walks you through choosing a pattern, folding, applying dye, and fixing color to transform t-shirts, tote bags, and other textile accessories with creative, personalized techniques.

Natural dyes come from plants, insects, or minerals and tend to be more eco-friendly, while synthetic dyes offer a wider color range and longer-lasting results. You’ll learn how to select and prepare both types.

Common issues like unwanted stains, too much dye, or blurry patterns can be fixed by adjusting the number of bands, exposure time, and washing. The course encourages experimentation and creativity when mistakes happen.
