About the video: Constructing the Text Box
Overview
“The text box, like the guidelines, is not visible in the finished page, but it defines the surface which the text will fill. Every line must be fully justified, meaning the text must touch the box on both sides. Then, when the lines are rubbed out, the framing device is still present ina virtual way, holding the block of text together. Traditionally, the dimensions of the text box are not random but related to all the other measurements on the page. You will learn how to calculate the size of the box, the margins and the space between the baselines based on the size of your pen. I will demonstrate how to calculate all these, and how to construct the box.”
In this video lesson Joumana Medlej addresses the topic: Constructing the Text Box, which is part of the Domestika online course: Arabic Calligraphy: Learn Kufic Script. Explore the ancient Arabic script style of Kufic by learning to write a short text using traditional artistic practices.
