About the final project for: Manga-style Portraits in Watercolor

Manga-style Portraits in Watercolor

“You have reached the end of the course, thank you very much for joining me on this adventure. In this course you learned 3 things: to observe and synthesize the drawing, to choose your color palette and to color with watercolors. With all this knowledge learned, I invite you to put it into practice by making your own portrait. Before saying goodbye, I want to share an example of how I would like to see your course project: The first steps Observe and synthesize the features of a real person in a manga drawing style, portraying the head, torso, and arms.

Colors Use colors balanced across the color wheel and desaturate colors to choose the color palette for your project.
The coloring Use the basic techniques of watercolors and start the coloring process, starting with the temperature of the drawing, the shadows, the skin, the eyes, the hair, the clothing and the background.
The portrait Finally, clean the impurities from a black and white image and another in color with the Adobe Photoshop editing program.
Remember that with watercolors you have to be very patient and like everything else, it improves with practice. These are the tips I give you: 1. Use cheap paper to do the exercises and color tests. For the course project, use better quality paper. 2. Color your projects starting from the temperature of the drawing, the skin, the eyes, the hair and the clothing and the background. In that order. 3. Scan your work at 300 or 600 dpi to keep a copy on your computer. Keep your original drawing on a sheet of paper in a dry place or send it to be framed. That's all! Share your project by clicking "Create your project". In addition to the photographs of each stage of the process, I shared a short text in which you talk about your experience in carrying it out. I will give you feedback as soon as possible. However, I ask you to be patient, as it may take a while for me to reply to you. While you wait, I invite you to exchange ideas and advice with the rest of your classmates. I will be looking forward to see your works, tasks, questions and comments in the forum…! See you! ”

“Final project Thanks for getting here. That means you had a lot of enthusiasm for learning new knowledge and I am glad that they have served you. I advise you to do the tasks, since at the end of the day they are exercises that help you so that you can improve what costs you the most. I kept practicing until you feel ready to tackle the final project. I advise you to choose your own, that you do the process and upload it step by step. Being wrong is positive, so don't get discouraged. Remember that it is the first job you do in a detailed, dynamic and color pose. The key is to be persistent...”
