About the final project for: Contemporary Portraits with Graphite

Contemporary Portrait in Graphite

“Now we have reached the end of this course. I hope you enjoyed it and that you have learned a lot from the content of the lessons. Remember that now it's your turn to work on your project, original and unique, following my steps. Let's remember what they were: First, look for ideas that serve as inspiration for your portrait. I recommend you start with a bombardment of images to avoid the fear of the “blank page”. Next, define the general characteristics that you want your portrait to have. Consider adding elements that give strength and originality to your final image. Once the portrait is defined, retouch it in Photoshop, creating a composition that can be used to go from the computer to the paper. This is also a good time to try out those pops of color and see which one suits your project best. To go from digital to paper, create a grid, my method of doing it simply and without errors. If you want to add an element of color to your project, this is the time to do it, to prevent the color from getting dirty with the graphite. Once our first image is ready, we begin to draw, from left to right, avoiding dirtying it. First, draw the hair, both the general mass and the detail.

Next, focus on the most important element of the portrait: the eyes. Do not skimp on them, they have to talk, because that is where all the attention of the image is directed. We continue with the cheek and nose, and then with the mouth and chin. I suggest you start with subtle and delicate mouth expressions, to achieve a more realistic finish.
Finish your portrait, completing the right part. Also choose a background for the image. I opted for a black background, but I invite you to innovate and create one that goes with your style.
Lastly, preserve the portrait with a fixing spray and save it digitally so that you can show them to the widest possible audience. Well, that's what we draw for, to communicate and share our images and ideas. FInd your inspiration and show me what you can do. Upload your project with all the steps you followed, accompanied by images. I will be waiting for you in the forum, ready to comment on your work and share my knowledge with you. Good luck drawing! ”
