About the final project for: Black and White Portrait Photography with Character

Black and White Portrait Photography with Character

“As you have already seen in this course, it is very important to investigate and take a lot of photos, take notes, make sketches, visit museums, read, watch movies, documentaries to grow as authors and not close only on topics related to photography. I encourage you to continue taking many photos and looking for a way to transmit through images and face projects. As a course project I have made two types of portraits, one with a wide angle and the other with a more closed plane, with fixed optics. Here I provide you with this brief guide of steps and tips so that you can always have your shooting or your working method organized when developing your project: Preparation of the photo What photo do you want to take? Think about the final photo, the light and optics you would like to use; this is the most important. Take time to think about what you want to do, better to waste time thinking it over and be clear about it than to doubt or find yourself lost during the shooting. Remember to do tests before to assess the unforeseen events that may arise. Find the right person for this project. Tell him about the idea and make him participate in the creative process, sure that this way he will be more comfortable on the day of the photos. Find the environment that best suits what you want to do. Check all the equipment you need in advance, so as not to leave anything behind. Remember to bring spare batteries and memory cards.

Shooting Bring to the shooting an outline or clear idea of the photos you want to take. Once you have made them, let yourself go and create new things. First do what you were looking for and then play and have fun creating! If you have any questions, review Unit 3 and Unit 4 of the course in which I explained everything related to shooting both the photo with an open plane and the photo with a closed plane, from the choice of light and optics until the placement of the model and the actual shooting with it.
Selection and editing of photos Organize the session by type of photo, so it will be easier for you to select. Remember to backup the entire session to a hard drive. Prepare your images and edit them as we saw in Unit 5. Prepare them for the final format, social networks, publication in the media, make a book, a portfolio, to print in a laboratory ... A tip: always do it from a copy file, so you can keep the original for other things if you need it at another time.
After following this process throughout the course, these are my two photos: Open shot:

Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your two photographs and the steps that have led you to them so that we can see the whole process. It would be great if you showed an image of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one, how you have chosen the concept of your photo, the model, the materials you have used, how your selection process has been. photos, etc., so I can give you feedback. On the other hand, as I mentioned in the previous unit, if in addition to the Domestika community, you want to share your creation with everyone, you can upload photos of them to Instagram with the hashtag #JeosmDomestika I hope you have enjoyed and learned in this course. From here you already have the necessary resources to be able to make portraits with personality and character. I hope that this whole process has been comfortable and fun for you and that we keep in touch through the forum for this course. I ask for your patience, I also have to attend to my other professional projects, but I will always try to answer your messages, your doubts and questions both in the forum and through my social networks.”

“Final project It was time to review what we saw. First I talked about myself, where I come from and about my work and my influences. And then we saw what to do in this course. We look for references and style. I introduced you to the person we would portray and I showed you the material. We saw how to make a portrait, how to position the model and what type of light to use. We saw how to solve problems that arise when we don't have space. And also what props to use to make a portrait with more character. We saw how to make a close-up portrait with fixed optics, a flat bottom, playing with l...”
