Creative Artist's Diary: Define Your Visual Language

“We have reached the end of the course. I hope you have learned and enjoyed a lot throughout the proposed lessons and exercises. Next, I am going to review the different phases to follow to develop the final project. To recap, our final project is an artist's diary that we have put together by putting together several pieces, combining and experimenting with different traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques. The result of each project is as unique as the personality of each student. Remember throughout the journey the way in which each decision will shape that result: the colors, sizes, amount of information, composition, materials, combinations ... are infinite, and the result must be a reflection of yourself. Materials Collect and organize the materials that you are going to use for your project. As we saw in Unit 2, you can find them in your home, in your workspace and even in your urban environment. The more you find, the more resources you will have at your disposal, not only for this project, but for other future projects. Also keep in mind that as you advance in the project and define a look, you will be debugging and choosing only a few.

Creation of spots Do some staining exercises on the supports you have chosen. The more you experiment, the more options you will have to include in your notebook.
Drawing As you practiced in Unit 3, it is time to draw. Relax and release your hand and go doing the different types of drawing that we saw in the lessons of that unit: objects, spaces, and portrait and human figure. Remember that each drawing is part of a larger composition, so it does not need to be a faithful representation of reality, but rather an interesting graphic resource.
Composition and collage Work on the composition and collage, organizing and combining the different elements that you have been creating and that you want to include in your notebook. Try different combinations to choose the ones you prefer to include in your notebook. At this stage keep your eyes wide open to find patterns and combinations that are striking to you and that allow you to explore abstraction. Finally, add the last elements and details that give cohesion to the whole of your work.
Record of your work and final result Take the digital captures of your final pieces with an SLR camera to be able to edit them. In Unit 4 we saw that these, despite being flat, have elements that transcend the two-dimensional and that are characteristics of objects rather than images, and that is why it is important to learn how to capture them. Once digitized, edit them with Camera RAW. Lastly, post your work on Instagram. Remember that we learned the importance of this platform, which can serve you not only as a portfolio, but also as a narrative tool of your process and your personality: a window into your life and work so that those who connect with your work can learn more about it. .
Now share your final project in the forum with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your work and the steps that have led you to it: from the materials you chose and your creative exercises using the different techniques learned to the photos of the pages of your finished notebook, and even how your Instagram feed! It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. So I can give you feedback. On the other hand, if in addition to the Domestika community, you share your creation with everyone on Instagram, do so with the hashtag # ArmandoMesíasDomestika Finally, I want to invite you to share in the forum your experiences, your doubts and your recommendations during the process of your course. In this way we can generate a feedback network and discover new tools in the processes of others. I will try to answer all questions as soon as possible, as far as my work in the studio allows me! But rest assured that I will be closely following all the projects. I hope that you face many challenges and that, although they seem overwhelming, through this course you will be able to overcome them and find in their realization many of the answers that you were looking for to feed your creative process. ”

“Final Project We've come to the end of this Domestika course. Thanks for getting here. In my case, I chose as a final project an artistic exploration on the pages of a notebook. Choose the topic you'll develop. When you do, pick and classify your materials according to your project. Next, create your stains. Continue drawing and add objects and spaces first, and the human figure next. Then work on composition and collage. Once everything's in place, add your last elements to add some consistency to the whole. Once the pieces are done, take photos to digitally edit them and publish them in s...”
