Portrait Embroidery with Botanical Elements
“We have reached the end of our course and I want to thank you for taking the time to learn embroidery techniques with me. I hope you had fun and gained new skills and ideas to incorporate into your own work. Now that you have your final project ready to publish in your hands or you already have in mind the way forward, I want to tell you two things: 1. The most important one is about copying and copyright. Under no circumstances copy someone's work or remove elements from various artists to create your own. We tend to think that because it is on the internet there is no owner, but there is an author: someone who created it, who placed his reference there. Some companies offer embroidering risks, which are great and make embroidering easier when you are just starting out. However, I think it's very magical that you put the elements that most represent your identity, that say about who you are, where you came from, in short, what is most precious to you. So invest in drawing courses, study embroidery stitches, find your favorite texture. I believe in the emotional connection we have when creating something that is ours alone, in developing our capabilities and not being afraid. It requires dedication and effort but it is very rewarding. Creation, contentment and fulfillment go together, the path will show you the path. 2. You already have the tools you need, create the threads that connect you to your work yourself. Now I share some steps of my process until the result of my embroidered self-portrait.

At the beginning of the course, I introduced you to my main references and you got to know my work as a textile artist over the years. We've seen all the materials you need for your project. Then you learned basic free embroidery stitches and also the rope stitch, my favorite hair stitch. Together we build a mood board, a panel of references with elements that were used in the compo...”
