About the final project for: Creative Writing for Beginners: Bringing Your Story to Life

Creative Writing for Beginners: Bringing Your Story to Life

“I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey into writing, and that you’ve learnt a few things about the process of putting together a story. We’ve reached the end of the course, which I hope is just the beginning of your explorations into the art of writing stories. Remember that writing is an art, and art takes time. You’re never alone when you write. There are always other writers to learn from, so keep reading widely to discover new ways to tell a story. You can always revisit this course when you need an extra nudge to keep going. A notebook is an intimate space where the only thing that matters is the writing itself. Even when you are distracted by people, worries, work, and other deadlines, I hope I’ve shown you ways to dive into writing without thinking or planning too much. Carry your notebook with you wherever you go, stay open to what’s around you, and honour all the wonderful, complex ideas and thoughts inside you. Your imagination (along with a pen and some paper) is all you need to keep writing. The more you write about yourself and notice how multifaceted and contradictory you are, the richer your fictional character will be. We’re all full of stories. What makes a writer is the endurance and curiosity to get those stories down on paper. Whether your stories are personal, fictional, or a mixture of both, keep experimenting with ways to bring your imagination to life. I’ve shown you a few ways to do that, but the more you write, the more you’ll discover that you have your ways of generating and making stories. Trust them! Not everything you write in your notebook will become a story, but everything in your notebook is something you have written that will contribute to the uncovering and sharpening of your voice as a writer. A notebook is a steady companion, a versatile laboratory, and an undisturbed space to create worlds and make stories. Follow the themes that excite and intrigue you, as they will be the aspect of your work that makes you unique. Thanks for sharing this space with me. I hope it’s just the beginning of our writing adventure and that you’ll share your experiments and stories with me and the other writers in the forum. I will read all the Final Projects and make suggestions where I can. Please try and keep within a word limit of around 1,000 words, just so it doesn’t get too overwhelming for me and your fellow writers on the course. Remember that whatever you write you will have written, so: less thinking and more writing! Start writing now.”

“Final Project And that's it, we've reached the end of this Domestika course. I hope I've been able to teach you some things you need to know in order to translate the world around you into words, and to bring your stories to life. Before we say goodbye, I'd like to go through all the steps we've taken to create your final project. The first thing I did was show you some of the materials that I use in order to write and how the pen and the pencil and the paper and the notebook that you choose affect what you write about and where you write. What we did after that was we started writing and I...”
