Introduction
Hello! In this first unit, I start by introducing myself and talking about my personal and professional career. Then I will show you books, artists, illustrators I am interested in, collagists, photographers, and textile platforms that inspire me a lot. Finally, we will talk about what we are going to do in this course and of course about our wonderful final project!

In this first lesson, I will introduce you to my personal world and show you some of my professional projects.

My Influences
I want to share with you some references I really like and refer to often to get inspired.
Studying Art History and discovering these artists and designers has allowed me to understand the importance of observation, color, compositions, and to learn a lot about different techniques. And above all, the importance of being patient in everything we undertake. -
What We Will Do in the Course?
Now let's talk about what the course is about. My goal is to teach you how to print with different techniques I really like to work with onto an oversize white dress. From personal investigation, you will create drawings, patterns, textures, define colors, and materials.
All will be reflected in a personal notebook full of your own references and ideas you will be able to refer to all along the course. I will teach you 4 different techniques you will be able to combine as you wish to finally create your own printed garment that will exist forever. The print you will create will be like a small painting on a white canvas, a unique, artistic, and personal composition to wrap your body with.

I am in love with his scenes and shapes.
Fra Angelico
His paintings are from another time, his paintings tell us beautiful stories.
Van Eyck
I just love the Arnolfini portrait, a scene full of mystery. Van Eyck’s capacity to translate the touch of the textiles is really amazing!:
Bonnard
Bonnard for being an amazing impressionist, portraying the XIX century.
His landscapes, urban scenes, portraits, and intimate domestic scenes demonstrate a specific and unique vision of texture, pattern, and color. His work is full of life and feeling.

Icinori, fantastic illustrators working a lot with silk-screen printing and having their own specific world with diversified shapes, patterns, colors, and compositions.Takuro Kishibe
Kishibe is a great Japanese drawer and collagist making slightly surrealist and poetic collages, where the feeling of textile is evident for me. His work inspires me for compositions and his beautiful color palette:WGSN

6 Artists and Designers That Inspired Me for This Specific Course
We now move on from the general to the particular, at least when it comes to my influences. These are the artists whose work largely influences the contents of this course.
Rothko
A fantastic abstract painter working with intensely vivid and deep colors. He manages to create a huge emotional sensation one can experiment through the eyes. His paintings give the sensation of entering into another dimension. His color palette combination is just amazing and I decided to combine red and pink watching his paintings.
It is definitely a type of art one has to experiment with as a picture in an art book will never reflect the sensation given standing in front of one of his pieces. A real-life experience.
Li Edelkoort
Lidewij Edelkoort is for me an amazing reference and very inspirational. She works with trends, textiles, colors, and creates in her publications some beautiful stylings and settings. I have 2 quite old Views on colors I bought 20 years ago and they are still so ahead of its time (or current, if you will) in terms of content, colors, compositions, textile manipulations, etc.
It is the type of image that gives me the wish to play a lot with composition in my textile work.
Collectiftextile
In my view, a great website based in a collective based Montreal that I found 2 years ago. I subscribed immediately to it as its articles present very interesting and unusual contemporary textile designers. Check out the feature stories on Love Oglin and Chen Zhi.Genadii Berëzkin
A great Russian collagist I referred to as I love how he creates landscape collaging different torn up papers. Very inspiring when looking for printing landscapes.
Paul Cox
Paul Cox is a French artist/designer, whose works branch into many different disciplines. I just love his ability to jump from one idea and project to another. He is extremely free and creative. His book Coxcodex is so inspirational for shapes, marks, and mixed tools.Matisse
I would like to highlight Recortes, dibujando con tijeras, a book I referred to as it is full of shapes to make stencils. Matisse cuts and collages are just amazing, full of freedom and happiness.
It is what I often do; drawing with scissors! -
