Introduction to Fashion Styling
“We have reached the end of the course and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Before saying goodbye I would like to recap what I hope to see in your final project. Throughout the lessons, you have been able to soak up the professional work of a stylist and you learned about the different roles that you can play in styling. To start, think about what type of styling project you would like to develop, maybe you would like to venture into editorial photography, maybe working with celebrities is your goal, or maybe something more performative like styling for a fashion show or a live show . The field of action is wide and you can explore everything little by little. Once you are clear about the nature of the project you will develop, it is time to record your creative process through a mood board and a story board. This will help you to visualize what you will need to take into account to develop your work, for example, what type of model you visualize, in what location you would like to work and perhaps look for the accessories and materials that you will need. In the case of my project, I have developed a photoshoot around denim , but you can do anything else, maybe be inspired by another era or take your city of source. Styling is about creativity and play, don't be afraid to be wrong. In this case, you can see how I played with a seemingly simple denim jacket. I used gadgets like garters, safety pins, hooks and clips to explore the different silhouettes that the same garment can provide. Accessories also play a fundamental role: notice how in the first photograph the jacket is the absolute protagonist and in the last one it takes a secondary role to provide a more relaxed and rocker look. Take these types of observations into account and stick to what you want to convey, therefore, it will be very good to have your mood board present.
