About the final project for: Vector Art: Reflecting Your Style with Illustrator

Vector Art: Reflecting Your Style with Illustrator

“So we’ve finally reached the end of the course, I hope you have enjoyed learning about the way I work and I hope it has inspired you to delve into the world of vectors. Here’s a recap of what we learned so far: To kick off the project we went through the tools you can use in illustrator and setting yourself up properly for working, not only setting up your Illustrator interface but also preparing yourself with reference images or ideas of what you want to draw and some references for style. We then began the drawing process by creating a few small, really rough sketches to figure out our composition. After that we selected one of the compositions and began to work with it on a larger piece of paper, initially starting very rough to create the basic shapes, then moving on refining those shapes to create the final sketch.

Next, we took our drawing and put it in Illustrator. We traced over the main body of lines using the "Pen" tool and added in any hatching using the "Blend" tool a little later. After that, we created a new layer below and began to add the basic colours and experiment with the palettes. Once we had this sorted, we progressed onto shading and highlights.
Lastly, we looked into other ways we could maybe make our piece more interesting, using gradients and half-tones we created a few different versions of our illustration as well as added some extra features to it. Once we had the final version we were happy with, we prepared it as an image you can upload and show off.
Remember to document your progress online and interact with other creatives, immerse yourself in the areas you’d like to work into the point where you feel like you have your own vision and style. It’s a never-ending journey but it will make you feel more determined to work hard and be on the level of those you admire.
I can’t wait to see what you guys have made, thank you so much for following along, please share your work with me and let me know if you have any questions, or hey even feel free to give me suggestions as I’m still learning too, we all are! I’m a busy person, so it’s tough to juggle work while keeping a healthy home life, but I will reply as soon as I can. You are always welcome to send me an email. Cheers! ”
