Paint with watercolors in a technical and creative way
Ana Victoria Calderón - Illustrator, Designer and Plastic Artist who has worked for the likes of Ray-Ban, Vanity Fair and Editorial Santillana - will teach you to paint with watercolor, starting with the basic techniques.
You will learn to have fun with watercolors while discovering the basic aspects and techniques. Then you will experiment with different materials using a modern approach. It's not about watercolor in the traditional sense, but a course much more focused on illustration.
About this course
You will begin to get to know the work of Ana Victoria Calderón and her influences, as well as the reasons that led her to dedicate herself to the world of watercolor.
Next, you will briefly review the materials needed for the different exercises that you will do, and the learn the purpose for each.
Then, you will learn the basic aspects when working with watercolors, such as transparency levels, water control, gradients and paint saturation, as well as understanding the weight and precision needed to start using the brush with greater control to achieve fine details.
Once you have understood the basics, it's time to experiment mixing the watercolors with other materials such as other types of paint, salt, chlorine as well as homemade materials and analyze the reactions.
At the end of the course, you will be able to create a complex illustration applying the techniques learned from the experiments you liked the most.
What is this course's project?
You will make an illustration of a nebula or galaxy using watercolor, other materials and acrylic as a final touch, putting into practice all the exercises completed during this course.

What you need
No prior knowledge is required to complete this course.
Regarding materials, you will need: a notebook especially for watercolors, pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, watercolors, round brushes for watercolors in different sizes (especially a fine brush for smaller details), black ink, acrylic paint or white ink, a glass for water and a palette.
It is optional, but recommended, to have table salt at hand. As well as alcohol, acetone and chlorine and a variety of inks and watercolors (liquid, tube, metal ...). They can be things you already have but don't know how to use. They may be useful to experiment with.

Ana Victoria Calderón is an illustrator. Originally from Cancun, she studied Information Design and Plastic Arts. She now lives in Mexico City, where she exhibits and sells her work.
Her illustrations are applied to prints, bags, notebooks, ceramics, kitchenware, greeting cards, book covers or cases around the world.
She has managed to create a successful career based on her own "art lifestyle brand", combining her personal tastes and passions into her work.
She mainly sells her illustrations online and collaborates with brands from the USA, Canada and Europe that represent her principles (in art licensing). She paints for pleasure and from the soul. Later these works take the form of different products to be distributed around the world.
She has worked with brands such as Ray Ban, Dr. Bronner's, Hallmark, Papyrus, Demdaco, Trader Joe's, American Greetings, DesignDesign, Anova Books, Galison, Studio Oh and Up With Paper.
Recently, she has also collaborated with publishers such as Vanity Fair for the new launch of Louis Vuitton, Elle Magazine illustrating the International Beauty Awards, and the magazines Travesías and Editorial Santillana.
Her speciality is watercolor, ink and acrylic on paper. Her style is delicate and feminine and based on the mysticism of nature, night landscapes and sacred geometry symbols.
