About the final project for: Watercolor Travel Journal

Watercolor travel notebook

“We have reached the end of this journey, I hope you have enjoyed this course as much as I did. I also hope that you have learned a lot and that everything we have seen has inspired you to tell your own stories through your travel notebooks. Next, I am going to review the different phases to follow to develop the final project: Preparation In my case, I have chosen a watercolor landscape as the final project of the course, but you must choose what you want to draw on this page of your travel notebook. When you have decided, first of all, familiarize yourself and practice the different basic watercolor techniques. Then mix colors to create your own palette.

Reference image Choose a reference image and find it well lit. Ask yourself the question "what story do I want to tell?" It is also very important that you pose an attractive framing and different depth planes to the drawing by using different planes. As I explained in Unit 3 of the course, I have selected a larger main image and a smaller detail image that supports and complements the first.
Composition and main structure in pencil Divide the space and play with the composition of the page, framing the image in the space you have. Then get down to work with the pencil sketch of your drawing, the lines that will form the skeleton of your watercolor.
Watercolor and ink With the pencil drawing ready, it is time to apply the first spots of color in watercolor.
Then, fill in the details with the finer pen and brushes to add volume and depth to the drawing.
Then add some final light touches. I have used the white paint marker and the gouache to take the level of detail of the drawing one step further.
Complete the page and final result Once the main illustration is finished, complete the rest of the page with other elements that will add more information to the story you want to tell, so you will give your work a personal style!
After adding the last elements, the first page of our travel notebook would be ready. We did it!
Now share your final project with all of us in the forum by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. As I have done up here, it would be great if you showed a photo of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. I am looking forward to seeing the first page of your travel notebook. I want to encourage you to participate in the forum, both to show your progress and to provide constructive comments on the work of your colleagues. I will be as pending as possible to resolve doubts and give you feedback. See you soon!”

“Final project We've reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you for having come this far. For the final project of the course, I chose a watercolor landscape, but you can choose what you want for your travel notebook. Once you've decided, familiarize yourself with the basic watercolor techniques. Blend colors to create your own palette. Pick a reference image and make sure it has good light. It's very important that you look for good framing that adds depth using different planes. Play around with the space and decide on the layout of the page. Draw pencil lines followed by the firs...”
