About the final project for: Watercolor Illustration: Nature and Life

Watercolor Illustration: Nature and Life

“We have reached the end of the course, I hope you had as much fun as I did. Before saying goodbye I will give you some recommendations to keep in mind when developing your project. First, remember to have all your supplies on hand and keep them in order.

Second, find and guide yourself from the image of a face to do the classic proportion exercise. From that image, practice the proportions, make a variation of the eyes, nose, mouth, etc., according to what I explained to you in the course. Try to deconstruct that same face into small faces and choose the character that you will portray in your work.
Third, choose a topic that you want to capture in your illustration and on that topic look for your botanical and wild references to compose your work. Build your moodboard with these references and create your color palette. Do not forget to carry out color tests first to familiarize yourself with the watercolors.
Fourth, once you are clear about what you are going to portray, create your sketch. You don't have to be a great draftsman, just draw your own perception of the elements.
Fifth, when you go to transfer your work to the greaseproof paper, do not forget to fix it well and use a pencil with a fine tip to go over the lines made with the pencil, so you can see where to continue.
Finally, when you start to paint, do not be afraid of the material, it is only a matter of using your paper towel and your brushes if you need to clean the color or remove excess water, as we saw in the course.
Also, make sure to identify the shadows and lights with the help of your references, use different colors to accentuate them. Work the layers at your own pace, be patient, wait a few minutes for it to dry to continue with the next layers. The number of layers you use will depend on the saturation you want to achieve. When you are done, carefully remove the illustration from the watercolor paper block, using a knife. When digitizing the image and working on it in photoshop, make sure that when scanning the image or taking a photo of it, you have done it in a good resolution, at least 300 dpi.
It is important that you find and develop your own style. Don't be hard on yourself and don't think so much about it! With what you have learned, practice, making different characters and thus you will release your hand. Remember to take the time you need to create and paint, do not rush and enjoy the process. Do not forget to do your tasks, share your progress, participate in the forum and upload the step by step of your project, I will look forward to seeing what you have created and so I can help you in your creative process. If you have questions or doubts, do not stop writing to me, I will be attentive to answer you as soon as possible. Thank you very much for being part of this course. See you! ”
