About the final project for: Storytelling through Watercolor Illustration

Storytelling through Watercolor Illustration

“We have reached the end of the course and now we are going to review different points that are important for you to remember to do your project: We started by making preliminary sketches that worked as first ideas, and then making a collection of reference images. With these images, I showed you how to face the final sketch process, at which point we achieve the final drawing.

Always accompanying us with the reference photographs, I gave you tips to define a color palette according to your project. Do not forget to do different tests and mixes, because this way you will have more possibilities to interpret the colors of the reference images. I showed you how to carefully erase the drawing made in graphite pencil, and then outline it with ink, using markers and the brush pen. Always remember to do it slowly so that you feel more confident or secure. If using the Brush Pen you have a problem with the ink, remember that you can always correct it with the Gelly Roll. We then worked on the lights and shadows of the background of the illustration, defining the direction of the light and seeing how the shadows of the different elements began to be projected. Then we apply the pigment to the characters, going through their clothes, fur and faces, and looking at the different details to give them volume.
Finally, I taught you how to digitally edit the artwork, kindly tweaking the contrast and saturation, as well as cleaning up unwanted traces from the digitizing process. For your personal project it would be interesting to propose something different from what I have presented, for example; tell a personal experience, a memory, illustrate a dream or a photograph; something that you feel excited or excited to work with.
I am very grateful that you have been part of this course, and also that I have shared with you what I have learned during these years. I want you to know that this is a long process; There will be days where some illustrations will be successful and others where nothing seems to go well, but I want you to know that this is fine, it is part of drawing and painting. Someone once told me that "You have to love what you always do"; It does not matter if that drawing or watercolor did not turn out as we had thought, let's save all those works or materials; They are steps that will lead us to achieve those pieces that we love so much. Patience, perseverance and most importantly, believe in your work. Feedback enriches, so we must be kind to each other. Let me know your doubts! It may take me a while to respond, but I will try to resolve concerns.”
