Creative Product Photography from Start to Finish
“Wow, you made it to the end of our course! Now it’s your turn to create a series of images that you will be able to use in your portfolio to attract your dream clients. During this course, you have learned the principles of photography, how to research a brand, how to create a shoot plan, how to develop concepts, how to organize your shoot via a shot list, what to include in your photo kit, how to build and style your sets, how to light and capture your images, how to retouch your final shots and the importance of sharing your work. Don’t forget that your inspiration should come from the brand (or product) that you are shooting, as this is the best way to create unique and original work and fully capture the essence of the brand. Throughout your planning process, keep those principles of photography we shared in mind to make your images stand out! Remember to think about the story you’re creating through your images and how that will be communicated to your audience. Having a clear idea of where your images will live online (Instagram stories, website, etc.) will help to develop your concepts and nail down which dimensions you need to shoot in. Once you get your ideas in place, be sure to gather all of your set pieces, props, and equipment to begin your shoot. The preparation is just as important as the execution. As you move along through your shoot, don’t forget to take a step back when you need to. Product photography is all about finding creative solutions to creative problems. Once you’ve captured your images, it’s time to edit them. Bring your work to life by following some of the post-production tips and tricks we have shared with you. In our experience, when we work with products that excite us, it makes the entire process that much smoother, and the ideas quickly start forming. We enjoyed getting to create a magical setting in which the Tower 28 products could actually live. Inspired by the colors and the branding, we wanted to bring all of those elements while building our sets. While we definitely had some troubleshooting moments during the shoot, it was crucial for us to stay on track by following our shoot plan closely while knowing when it was time to try something new if things weren’t going our way. Our biggest piece of advice to you all is to enjoy the process. After all, this final project is a chance for you to grow as a creative and have fun while doing so. When you have fun, it shows in your work!
