Design and Creation of Floral Compositions

Creating floral compositions that are full of creativity by combining different heights, colors, aromas, and textures is one of Juliana Bustillo’s specialties. She is the creative director and founder of Ora The Floral Agency, a successful Colombian company that has created floral experiences for great brands such as Carolina Herrera, Cartier, Mont Blanc, H&M, and many others.

In this course, begin your journey into the world of flowers by learning the essential techniques for creating unique floral designs. Juliana teaches, step by step, how to compose different types of arrangements and installations, exploring styles, heights, colors, and textures so you can decorate a memorable table.

To start the course, Juliana tells you how she started her career as a floral artist and how she created her own business from scratch. She shows you who her favorite floral artists are and the techniques that make them special.

In the second unit, learn the key concepts of floral composition. Classify flowers into five categories and see the importance of understanding what each one communicates. Learn about color theory and the use of textures, heights, and depth.

After the theory, start creating your design and execute your project. Brainstorm to find references and ideas using Juliana's process. Then, review all the materials you need and learn some tricks to take care of your flowers.

In the fourth unit, get to work making different styles of flower arrangements. Start by creating a composition for a centerpiece with an Oasis foam block. Then, make an elongated table centerpiece using chicken wire before finishing with the installation of a floral cloud that will hang over the table.

At the end of the course, discover some tricks for decorating a table and placing the pieces you have created in a harmonic and coherent way that achieves your initial concept.

As for materials, you will need florist scissors, an Oasis foam block (30 cm by 8 cm), chicken wire (16 m), wire rope (4 m), cable ties, green florist tape, a decorative pot, flowers and foliage, and other easily accessible materials that will be specified by the teacher throughout the course.
