Sara starts by introducing herself, tells about how her love for illustration began, and why she took an interest in pattern creation. See some of her references for inspiration and a summary of what you’re about to learn.

Begin by analyzing the different types of patterns according to their anatomy, such as the elements they’re composed of and color use. Look for your own references to create your concept, the look, and the color palette for your design before making a start on your pencil sketches.

Next, move onto working digitally! Sara shows you her step-by-step process and the tools and tricks to create vectors. Create your composition using fullers, fillers, and coolers in harmony until you can replicate it infinitely.

Visualize how your design will look on real products by creating a mockup with your patterns. Turn your pattern into monochrome and duotone colors and play with all the different possibilities you have at your disposal.

What is this course's project?

Create a pattern system from a concept of your choice, ready to apply to a product line with a mock-up presentation of your final pattern.
