Her evocative prints, her fascination for nature with its organic forms, and her devotion to vibrant colors have led to the confirmation of illustrator and print designer Catalina Estrada as one of the great icons and references in the world of illustration. Her exquisite work has been the image of great brands such as Starbucks, Nike, Camper, and Coca-Cola, and organizations such as Amnesty International, UNICEF, and Arrels. In addition, her work is very present in the publishing world in publications and books such as those of Paulo Coelho.

In this course, Catalina shares with you how she gets involved in socially-focused projects to effectively transmit the beauty and optimism that these provide. She will show you how this kind of project can be a fundamental engine for the development and creation of your own graphic language and, even, a great opportunity to explore new languages that you can use to start illustrating prints with soul.

Start the course by getting to know Catalina Estrada a little better. She tells you how she became an illustrator, how she created her own graphic language through voluntary social projects, and what are her major influences.

How to start illustrating? See how Catalina starts her creative process as she guides you to do so as well, starting from a text, song, or something that makes you vibrate and drives you to create. From there, extract concepts and emotions to materialize in images: drawing and digitizing them, or illustrating them directly on a digital medium. These are the images you will use for your printed composition.

See how to vectorize your drawings and export them to Adobe Illustrator. Then, learn some tricks and tools within the software to get more detailed compositions, including how to turn some elements into digital brushes.

Create your color palettes from photos that inspire you, making the color mood of your print and applying it to your illustrations. Catalina shows you how, starting from small compositions in Illustrator, you can easily create full-color prints.

Apply your prints to two pieces: first in a handkerchief design, then adapt it to a single ink to apply to a package design. Finally, apply your design to mockup to be able to visualize it without physically producing it, and even share it on social media.

What is this course's project?

Create two prints for a socially-focused project or a specific theme that stimulates your emotions. Then, apply them to two pieces: a handkerchief and its packaging (cardboard envelope).
