About the final project for: Illustrated Scenes Using Traditional Techniques on Photoshop

Digital illustration: characters, expression and movement

“Dear students, we have reached the end of this course. With the physical materialization of your illustration, you conclude the final project of this course. I hope this exercise has invited you to explore and find a way to tell stories in the drawings. And that my way of solving the images technically makes it easier for you and works for you in the future to continue creating yours. Next, let's go over the steps to materialize your story in three scenes. Define the story We begin the practical part of the course by making a game to create the story you illustrated during the course. At this point, we analyzed the concept of character and you started with the sketch process, first starting from your memories and then polishing the sketch with photographic references.

Stains and textures To give your illustration greater visual richness, I taught you to make textures with black paint on textured papers, using different instruments such as a brush, sponge roller and toothbrush. Remember that there are no written rules here and that you can make your textures with what you like the most; the point is to come up with a texture that you like.
Working in digital Once your composition was defined, it was time to create a balanced color palette with which you gave life to your illustration. Then, with the textures you created previously, you learned how to turn it into a Photoshop brush that added some personality to your illustration. Building your story To get fully started on the illustration, you began to trace each element separately in layers. I showed you how to use the masks and you learned to work constructively, creating a flexible and easy-to-modify file. You got to know the different types of layer to give interesting effects, where you applied the color palette you chose.
Coming to life Once with your finished illustration, you learned to export your file, depending on the type of printing, and I showed you some printing and materialization options for your work. Remember that there are no written rules and you can bring it to life the way you like; perhaps a set of risographs, some postcards or even in a book, the idea is that your work be embellished and impactful.
I am eager to see your final result. Please share it and any questions that arise in the process, remember that I am present in the forum to help you. Thank you very much!”

Partial transcription of the video

“Final project Before I say goodbye, let's take a tour of what you did on the course. I started by talking to you about how I relate my illustrations with theatrical scenes, where I rely on spatial, visual and expressive elements to tell my stories. Focusing on the puppet theater, I showed you how these dolls can come to life through characterization and movement. I showed you how silence works when telling a story visually. Through various examples, you saw the importance of playing with shapes and colors to give rhythm to your story. With this learned, we made a play on words with which we...”
