About the video: Move the skeleton

Overview

“To make the skeleton of the art toy, the first thing is to make a scheme in perspective, imagining in three dimensions the sketch we have made. In this way you can decide what route the wire will take to create a structure that gives support and balance to the largest possible surface. Then, taking the measurements of the sketch, go bending the wire so that it acquires the shape we want. Once you have that first structure, use smaller pieces of wire to finish giving body to the skeleton and help yourself with the finest wire to give more support. When you have the structure ready, place it on the table and try to imagine that it is already an art toy in itself (or at least a wire character). In this way you can make small modifications to give intention and attitude to the skeleton, which will then be reflected in the modeling and in the final finish. ”

In this video lesson Luaiso Lopez addresses the topic: Move the skeleton, which is part of the Domestika online course: Art Toy Creation. Learn how to design, build and model a unique and collectible 3D character.

“Shaping Your Skeleton With your art toy designed, we'll learn how to go from two dimensions to three. To do so, we'll draw a simple three-dimensional cube, which is kind of the shape of the frog I designed. The head would be here and the feet here. We do this to visualize where the wire will need to go to create a skeleton or structure that's consistent and balanced. If we start with the front leg, it'd be about here on the side. I'm drawing as if I were shaping the wire. We'll go up from the arm to the shoulder. We'll go down to the leg. I'm making this path. We'll go out a bit here to whe...”
