Hello all,
This is my first post. I work professionally as a "Visual Arts Specialist", which means I'm a graphic designer/illustrator, but now, as my wife and I are down to one kid in the house, I want to expand my horizons and sharpen my skills.
I've had an iPad for about a year and a half, and I am really loving the things it allows me to do with no set-up/clean-up time, using layers (like I have done in Photoshop for years) to multiply, to screen back, etc.
I started the Color Theory class last night. I'm excited about this class; I tend to work in a very literal sense with colors, showing dimension by adjusting values. I end up with a lot of mud sometimes. I've been trying to be more deliberate with color, and this is a recent piece I've been playing with. So many things to improve, but I thought starting with color would be smart, as I feel a sense of limitation, and have some ideas as to what I want to achieve, but can't seem to arrive at without creating "mud".
The first version of this I hammered out while watching TV, and on my lunch break. It was inspired by a "Random Fantasy Drawing Prompt" website. "Draw an adventurer, a thief and an elvish princess looking at a map."
I wanted to create a moody atmosphere with some basic fantasy tropes. I had initially drawn a flatter, more static version with the three characters side-by-side, but envisioned something more dynamic, and moodier. I feel I have moved it in a good direction, and I am still enjoying playing with the colors and tightening up the rendering. I know with practice and focus I can do much more (I have ADHD, so the focus thing is a challenge, but I want this).
