No previous skills are necessary, the eagerness to learn something new is the only requisite.
As for materials, you will need: waxed cotton string of the color you prefer (you can choose a few colors), hooped earrings (either gold or silver) of a 6cm diameter, gold beads, scissors, a measuring tape, adhesive tape, glue, paper, and a pencil.
