Tips for taking measurements in pattern-making

The world of design and clothing unfolds like a blank canvas, coming to life through the precise measurements that give shape to each garment. If measurements are the stars that guide navigators, patternmaking emerges as the compass that orients toward the perfect creation. Embark on our journey towards excellence in patternmaking! 🚀✨

Measuring with or without clothing:
Before diving into the creative process, let's decide whether measurements are taken with or without clothes. For a fitted dress, let's opt for measurements in underwear, while for a coat, let's move forward with measurements considering the clothes that will be worn underneath. 🧤
Looseness according to the fabric:
In the fascinating universe of fabrics, stiffness plays a crucial role. In rigid fabrics, let's leave 4 cm of slack at the hips and chest, and 2 cm at the waist. If the fabric has a little elasticity, such as a polo pique or a jersey, the measurements are taken close to the body, omitting slack. And if the fabric has a lot of stretch, all horizontal measurements are reduced.
