Carla Bigum

I am a retired educator, having worked in an elementary school setting my entire professional career. Besides teaching children, I taught adult educators and was an instructional coach observing teachers in lesson work, setting teacher goals as well as demonstrating lessons. I retired recently and took up pastel work. I love the feel of pastels in my hand and the pressing of color onto paper. I love to draw, too, and sometimes my pastel work looks more like drawings. I learned the art of calligraphy when I first had children and have stayed with that practice on/off through the years. Now that I have more time, I want to develop my artistic mindset. As a kid I was given real watercolors and paper and played around with that, too. I have taken five art classes in my adult life and recently learned pastel art with a pastel painting group. My pastel work stopped briefly in the past year, but I took it up recently. I enjoy anything art as a way of escaping life. I find the hours go by anytime I practice art!
