Aurica Voss

I am Auri, a photographer from Berlin, and I have been a photographer for over 30 years. My motifs stem from my long-standing passion for photographing with available light, for the sea and the forest, for visual storytelling while being abroad and for my home city of Berlin. Two years ago I started my own photography business, Crabland Creative. My work includes my wall art as well as portrait and people photography, but also creative work and projects.

I bought my first camera with my pocket money when I was about 13 years old - the Beirette SL 100N in purple. After that, I never let go of photography. This was followed by a few analog SLR cameras and a course in analog black and white photography in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. Although this increased my focus on portrait photography at the time, it also made me realize that the lengthy process of manually developing negatives and paper images wasn't my thing. Patience was not one of my strengths back then, I wanted to see results immediately.

That was in 2005 and it was only then that I began to embrace digital photography. I didn't think it was a serious form of photography before then, because compact digital cameras were cheap and usually didn't have much more than a shutter button. At least that's what I thought. My attitude changed very quickly when I realized how much technical work a professional digital SLR camera could do for me, that editing images on the computer could be almost as much fun as taking the photos themselves and, above all, that the quality of the images was at least as good as my analogue photos, maybe even better. That was the turning point and fueled my passion for photography immensely.

Nowadays, I take my camera with me everywhere, whether I'm traveling, at the seaside, in my hometown of Berlin or hiking. My cell phone has also become an integral part of my photographic work. Sometimes I think about whether I would have dedicated my life to photography to this extent if it had remained analog. To be honest, I don't know. But what I can say for sure: I am glad to have gone through the "analog school". It has shaped the way I see things and people and how I photograph them and it continues to influence my creative photographic work.

I'm really happy that you're here and thank you for your attention! Feel free to contact me, I'm looking forward to inspiring exchanges between photographers!
