Figura expresiva

The pandemic and lockdown have been a challenge for everyone. But they've also been an opportunity to pause and reflect. In my case, after a long time, I had the chance to draw without a client, just for myself, to have fun and enjoy myself.

This is how, almost unintentionally, I embarked on this new line of drawing, less childlike and more immediate than what I was doing at the time. Due to the forced isolation, I needed to work on human contact, intimacy. The first drawings were purely impulsive, straightforward doodles with no other objective than to express a certain desire. But little by little, the visual aspect took center stage, and eroticism gave way to a more intimate treatment of the subject of couples.

This process of language creation went through different phases: first I explored anatomical deformities, then my interest shifted to the expressive use of lines, then to freeing up color, and finally I added gouache to those drawings that until then had been solely pencil.

And that's where I find myself now, working in this language that is both controlled and free, with rules but very much guided by intuition and spontaneity.
