Hi, I am Jhanie. I used to be a professional tattoo artist, went to school for comic book illustration, 2D and stop motion animation (sadly animation is no longer offered at The Kubert School), and had a freelance career before having children. I gravitated to parks and recreation having kids years ago trying to promote a healthy life and somehow disconnected from the art world other than fiber art for friends, the occasional comic book project, color work, or trading card set. Needless to say, they have grown up. I have more time again to myself so I decided to take classes on here after years of an art career behind me just to learn new things and learn how to SIMPLIFY.

I need to relearn how to create for fun not always finish something into a polished, marketable piece. Do something for ME instead of others… My main thing is now building box lanterns and doing original sumi ink illustrations for the panels. If it leads to making money that’s fine, but it’s great creating again on my terms.

I do have an art studio space to play and sell in a place called Lowe Mill (studio 313) in Huntsville, AL aka: Rocket City (Home of NASA). It’s a former textile mill that has become a a second home and creative community for many artists & performers. It’s nice to have a place meant to work on things separate from home. ANYWAYS, glad to be here. I can’t wait to learn things I never would have thought to try till seeing classes here.
