In November 1922, a British archaeological expedition led by Howard Carter led to the discovery of the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Artefacts from the excavated tomb were photographed by Harry Burton of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to document the find. These iconic photographs – now owned by The Griffith Institute in Oxford, England – became a worldwide media sensation (along with the restored artefacts), capturing the imagination of millions since their publication.
Semmel Concerts in collaboration with The Griffith Institute commissioned the Unseen Histories Studio to add colour to Burton's photographs for their ongoing hit exhibition Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures. In consultation with Egyptologists, every single item and location was cross-referenced with both Carter's inventory notes and the restored artefacts to ensure historical authenticity so that we can imagine what it was like to stand behind Burton at the 20th century's most significant historical discovery.

Lord Carnarvon: “Can you see anything?”
Howard Carter: “Yes, wonderful things!”
