Step 1: Ask the Client about goals for the space.
Attending World Tai Chi & Qi Gong Day this year made it easier to meet others who were already interested to learn more about Feng Shui!!
This client is purchasing a new home, & moving in early June 2024. She began with wanting general tips for decoration & aesthetic purposes; however, after a brief conversation, expressed interest in learning more about her new space according to Feng Shui principles & where to best position her furnishings.
We're beginning on the main level, where there is a kitchen, dining area next to outdoor patio with lawn, & large living room.
---------
Step 2: Obtain floor plan
Since the client is moving to a new home, it was very easy to obtain a copy of the new floor plan!
Notice the top of the page is South facing, this greatly simplifies where the traditional animal directions are. This changes as we look inside the various rooms.
---------
Step 3: Play Around!!
Now it's time to try different positions for the furniture the client mentioned in Step 1.
Naturally, it's easiest to print out the layout & paper pieces to easily rearrange (furniture is much heavier)!
Here, we explore variations based on what the client has in mind. I noticed the scaling was altered when the floor plan was zoomed in to work with the main areas, but this is okay since she hasn't very much furniture she needs to use anyways! We are mostly altering the Great Room based on what kind of desk the client decides to buy later.
Kitchen: easy- minimum of two stools behind the bar style counter, or three to reflect space for the lucky gods to bring prosperity & happiness to the home!
Dining: Using the client's existing furniture, we find an extra large area rug to make a comfy gathering space for the low seated, Moroccan style dining table. She wants this space to be inviting, so we'll place a shelving unit near the stairs to hold additional sitting cushions, games, trays, & other entertainment items!
Great Room: Because of the client's minimalist preferences, this space will be much simpler to work with!
a) we add a small desk, larger supportive chair, & large bookcase. From here, the client will have a solid command position with adequate support behind & to the side from the walls, a good view of the home without much distraction, & enjoy light from the window. We also place a medium to large size plant at the corner near the entrance to enhance liveliness, growth, & also provide a slight partition between the clients workspace & entrance/dining area.
b) similar Great Room, only difference is facing direction in case client prefers support from both walls, maintaining good energy from the window, (as well as incorporating her personal Kua number energy direction).
c) if client decides to purchase a much larger desk, this position can be best for maintaining many of the same benefits as previous two options. The only difference here is we add a small table between the desk & the stairs to halt any chi falling down the stairs crashing directly into the desk, as well as to prevent the client from feeling they are just climbing climbing climbing going nowhere in their career. By adding a plant on the small table, this can help the client feel they are growing their work or business in the right direction. The lamp can help signal when the work day begins, also when to turn off work mode & enjoy the rest of the day!
---------
Step 4: Review with Client
It has been two weeks since the initial consult, & it sounds like she has had a final walkthrough of her new home before arranging to get keys at the end of this month. Tomorrow, I meet with the client to discuss the sample placement positions. It will be an exciting conversation to hear her response, as well as any additional details she has to share which can add to the vibrancy & depth of each space!!
