Sample Wall

Sample Wall is a piece that features tests, samples and sketches from the past 12 years of working in my studio embroidering with my sewing machine. Whether it is a workshop, the beginning of a new piece or an exhibition, it is important to me to have samples of work as inspiration. I create samples with machine embroidery to test ideas, colours and techniques before creating a larger work. There are so many ways to use a sewing machine to create images and here is my collection. Arranged to look like wallpaper, this wall has work from early experiments in 2005, to recent samples for large scale pieces. Some examples include the dissolvable base fabric. Others have been dissolved and carefully ironed into pristine drawings. This piece is a record of my process working in my studio.
