My first project-in-the-making

I am new to embroidery; this is my first project. I am learning various stitches, such as the French knot. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge so that I can create projects with personal and cultural meaning.

I am using an embroidery kit with DMC embroidery floss and a wooden frame.

Since I am new to the process and I have a larger goal, mistakes, although frustrating, don't stop me. I watch videos on techniques for the particular stitch I'm working on and keep trying to master it until it becomes second nature. I am fueled by my love of making things. I draw inspiration from my mother and great-grandmother (pictured here), who used to make all of their own clothes, and my Indigenous community, for whom making things by hand and from scratch is a tradition countless generations in the making.
