For the final project of the course, I chose to present an analysis of the costume of a scene from the thriller "Last Night in Soho" directed by Edgar Wright. In particular, it talks about Eloise, a young country girl who dreams of moving to London to fulfill her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Dreamy, ambitious, but also very naive, with a suitcase full of her grandmother's vinyl records and a boundless passion for the 1960s, Eloise sets off for London to study fashion at a prestigious academy. However, as often happens in these stories, the big city can be "too much," quoting the same film. Eloise, who will find herself living in two realities: during the day in contemporary London, pursuing her dream of becoming a designer; at night, instead, she will be catapulted - through dreams - into a timeless London, the London of the sixties.
I chose to analyze the initial scenes of the film (I attach part of the script) when Eloise makes her first appearance. I read the script and highlighted the most important parts regarding the girl's clothing, accessories, and the scenography. The text refers to a dress made by her with newspaper sheets, so I include a photo of the model I imagined for her with a chignon hairstyle. Furthermore, I also considered lingerie, shoes, and decor with posters of Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn, icons of the 1960s and sources of inspiration for the Eloise. @binaypepo
