I am an absolute fan of DIY stuff, and I was really excited about this project. I loved the process of paper making from natural fibres, starting from picking sunflowers to drying up the sheets. I had to buy some of the materials online, such as caustic soda and non-fusible interfacing, but they were not so difficult to find.
I didn't process the sanflower stalks right away, but I noted down the net weight of the fresh product. By the time I started working on it, it had already lost almost 30% of the weight. I used the initial weight to calculate the amount of soda, and it seemed to work well. The only problem that I got was that the wet sheet would sometimes slide off the interfacing fabric once hanged vertically, so I had to use pegs, which wrinkled the paper a bit. If I had to do it again, I would probably blend the pulp even more to have a smoother result, but I am happy with the outcome.
