Giulio D Ercole

After graduating with a BA at the University of Rome, I entered the world of media and creative communication. As a producer, director, and organizer, I commenced my career working in radio, theatre, and television. In 1997, I moved from Rome to New York, where I worked as Senior Producer for RAI Corporation before turning to photography and working prolifically with numerous art galleries. Between 2001 and 2003, I specialized as a social documentary filmmaker and collaborated with the GlobalVision and Rossellini & Associati production, two companies engaged with social issues worldwide. Then, in 2003, I moved to Kenya, where I founded Canvas Africa Productions, with which I produced documentaries and photo reports on humanitarian projects in collaboration with the United Nations and international non-governmental organizations. My career as a photographer blossomed in Africa, where I started exhibiting my work in 2007. My first exhibition was "The Face of African Dignity", held in Nairobi, first at the Italian Institute of Culture and then at the American embassy. After participating in the Lagos Photo Festival (2010), I presented "Life in Lake Turkana" at the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, in the Italian Pavilion curated by art critic Vittorio Sgarbi (2011). That year I also participated in Biennale di Venezia, "Padiglione Italia nel Mondo", at the Italian Institute of Culture in Nairobi and the Watatu Art Gallery in Nairobi also devoted a solo show to my project "Rural African Women – Beauty Beyond Ego". In 2013 I was the official photographer at the Lake Turkana Festival, organized by the German Embassy in Kenya, and the photos I shot there were exhibited for a full month in the National Museum of Kenya. Since 2014, I live and work back in Rome as a photographer, documentary filmmaker, and communication consultant for multimedia projects. My personal photography and projects always focus on humanity and social conditions, which I portray through street photography and photo reportages. In 2018, I founded my own company, Rome Photo Fun Tours with wich I provide photo tours and workshops in Rome and in Tuscany.
