Lisa Di Stefano

I was hired 18 yrs ago as Studio Manager at Earth’n Vessel Pottery Studio in Bay Shore, NY, with no background in clay. I was fresh out of college at that time as a Painter, but was eager to have an art related job. Something that was hard to find on Long Island. NYC was the place for that, but the fast pace of the city never interested me.

Earth’n Vessel took me underneath their wing. I learned to pot by taking the custom orders no other potter wanted to take. After a couple of years of developing my skills, I started to navigate who I am in clay. One of my favorite things to create are test tiles. I love all the information gathered by the process. Also the journey of a test tile is very much like life. The ups and downs of clay, helps and relates to the hills and valleys of life.

I now in addition of Studio Manager at Earth’n Vessel, I am an instructor for beginners and teach workshops. I also work for Amaco traveling teaching workshops and conferences.

With my work, I am currently bridging the gap between my education of who I was as a painter to who I am now as a pottery.
