Rachel Snack

Hi! My name is Rachel Snack, and I am a weaver, educator and textile artist living in Philadelphia.

I grew up knowing I wanted to be an artist, and started making paintings and ceramics from a young age. When it came time to decide on college I chose to attend a prestigious art school, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was there that I learned to weave and really fell in love with the practice. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Fiber & Material Studies and later went on to receive my Master of Science in Textile Design from Philadelphia University.

After college I worked in textile conservation and then accepted an artist residency for a non-profit called Awamaki in Peru. Peru was a life changing experience for me, and challenged me to grow as an individual and an artist. The culture, people and textiles of Peru were so inspiring to me. It’s an extremely resilient and wise culture, with a rich textile history.

When I came home from Peru I attended graduate school, and then I went to work for another yarn company as their Creative Director. During that time it became clear to me how important it was to foster a weaving community and share my passion, and so I founded my own business, Weaver House.

Weaver House is a textile studio, yarn shop and weaving school dedicated to preserving craft tradition through hand-making and weaving education. We teach all levels of weaving in our studio, sell looms, tools and yarn and I also create commission-based woven artworks.

I have exhibited my work internationally, been published in numerous books and magazines, and taught courses on weaving, fiber dyeing and textile conservation throughout the United States. Weaving is my true passion and I’ve been lucky enough to practice the art for over twelve years.
