Tension and Grace

I created this contemporary ikebana arrangement to express a contrast between movement and stillness. The dynamic lines of the gloriosa symbolize vitality and passion, while the structured forms of the philodendron xanadu and sansevieria leaves bring a sense of stability and groundedness. Through this balance, I wanted to evoke a dialogue between energy and calm, nature and control. It reflects an inner search for harmony amid tension.

For this arrangement, I used gloriosa flowers as the main focal element, complemented by philodendron xanadu leaves for volume and texture. I also included sansevieria leaves to add structure and vertical lines. The container is a minimalist ceramic vase in neutral tones, and I used a kenzan to support the composition and maintain balance

This arrangement was born from a desire to explore the interplay between tension and grace. I started by observing the natural curves of the gloriosa, letting their movement guide the direction of the piece. The philodendron xanadu leaves added a soft contrast, while the sansevieria brought clarity and discipline to the form. Working with these elements felt like a meditation—each placement was intentional, each line a reflection of inner emotion. My aim was not just to create something beautiful, but to find a sense of harmony through the process itself. I hope this inspires others to trust their intuition and let the materials speak.
