Final project, drawing the town with markers and other stuff

So, this was a truly addictive and fun project... I ended up doing way more drawings than I expected (and I think I will keep doing them)

At first, I thought about just grabbing an image online, but I got excited and decided to just walk out and start taking pictures of my neighbourhood.

I found a couple nice houses, kiosks, and stuff... In the end, there was a nice building that I believed could work for a frontal view with no perspective

So, at first I decided to take a stab at it, I had some water based lettering markers and a piece of paper, and said... Why not?

Well... This is why not xD

Nevertheless, even though the result wasn't even close to what I was expecting, it was a good first attempt

I then went ahead and tried going to my usual medium, and did it using watercolours applying some of the techniques in the course. It was interesting, but felt that the result was too stiff and boring, also the paper wasn't really helping me much to do my lines, it was too rough

I had an idea of distorting the building's shape a bit, making it a bit fatter, with a more cartoonish vibe.

I kept the paper, but this time I used a water brush...

I liked the result a bit better, the colors and the brush helped me follow the course a bit more easily and the overall result was more vibrant, and light.

Still, the cartoonish vibe wasn't for me

Then, I went out and got some markers (a bit randomly) and started taking a stab at the same previous cartoonish shape for the building, but now with the right markers (some w&n)

I did a very fast drawing in this case, but still felt that I wasn't getting the right colors and overall vibes from it. It was very far from what the course was teaching me, and didn't really look quite right.

Like I said, I also wasn't quite happy with the shape and appearance of the building's structure

Then, to get used to the markers, I started doing some quick sketches with different ideas on how I wanted the thing to look like, and got to a place where I was kind of happy with the result

Even though in the beginning I didn't want to "copy" the same project that the teacher did, and thought I could just do it by myself with an image of my own, I started to feel like I was missing the right techniques, so I went back to square one and followed all lessons imitating and copying the project to practice sketching, techniques, coloring, layering, and so on...

Honestly, even though I believe I made some mistakes, I was quite happy with the result

After practicing with the provided image and having done it by myself, I felt I was ready to do it on my own, with the image I wanted, and trying to put my own style to it

In the end, I was very happy with the result... There are some areas that are too shaded, and the bottom of the drawing is not really my favourite part, but in general, I like how it turned out.

I hope to keep practicing and getting better at it, because markers are a very fun tool to work with.

I'm also waiting for the teacher's book to come out, I believe it'd be a very nice complement to the course and the practice...
