My project for course: Creating Botanical Collages from Scratch

Three collages: Yellow, Violet and Blue
My interest for plants and animals set off the theme. I chose the connection between fish, plants and humans. The plant, the star of the show, is a Schefflera Arboricola, one of my house plants.

And what do I want to say with my images? Maybe that humans are both caring and careless.

For colored backgrounds I painted brown grocery bags with acrylics. I like the thought of recycle.

I did cutting and experimenting, it is a wonderful thing when you come across something that you could not imagine, or would be hard to sketch. It kind of frees the mind and it entertains me. I liked the talk about Hannah Höch. For example, how she used collage for her paintings.

I carefully watched the videos and read the instructions. Very useful information that Manuela presented in a clear and interesting way. Thanks!

I tried the sewing machine, zig-zag, to fasten the plants. It felt a bit brutal, but worked quite well. It will be interesting to see what happens when the plants start to wilter. I painted some parts of the collage with acrylics and did some drawing with pencil.

For the future I will try some collages with other nature elements, and make it more sculptural.
