Hello, my name is Margie and I am here because I want to learn more about knitting and crochet as well as other crafts such as macrame, cross stitch, and sewing. I learned how to sew from my mother and by taking a sewing class at school. I learned crochet from my grandmother when I was about 12-13 years old. At that time, I used crochet to make baby blankets to give as gifts to people I knew. Although I loved crochet, I spent more time sewing clothing for myself. Once I graduated college and became a teacher, I found that I did not have much time leftover for sewing and crochet. Now, many years later, I want to become involved again with all of the hobbies I love. One reason I want to learn more about crochet is because I want to be able to make clothing that fits me and flatters me. Many of the patterns I see are designed for young slim bodies and have a boxy fit (with no shaping). I want to be able to change a pattern to fit and flatter my body and/or be able to design my own patterns. I am also interested in crocheting for my family (husband, son, sisters, etc.) and want to crochet blankets, toys, and clothing for babies and children. I am also interested in learning how to knit. I have started to learn how to knit by taking a class at a local yarn shop and by watching videos and reading books. However, I have not been able to devote much time to learning how to knit so I have not made anything yet. I am still learning how to do the basic stitches and have gotten stuck and not been able to move forward without getting someone to fix a mistake. I find that with crochet, I am able to undo my work and redo it and that fixes my mistakes without having to find someone at a yarn shop to help me as I have had to do with knitting. With knitting, I have not yet learned how to undo/redo in order to fix mistakes. Also, with knitting, I struggle with tension and therefore, my work does not look wearable/gift-able yet. With crochet, I struggle with understanding some patterns, especially ones that do not come with a stitch diagram and a schematic. I also struggle with getting gauge even when I try to go up or down a hook size.
